The Cookout FM

A digital experience for people who never stopped caring about good music. Classic funk, soul, new jack swing, yacht rock, and the songs that raised generations, streamed through Apple Music in a retro 90s desktop.

The clock says 1996. The clock is right about what matters.

The Cookout FM — Updates

VIBE/OS 7.3 —

NEW

  • THE COOLER: Drag a station, a tape, one of POP'S RECORDS or one of the many .TXT files into it to keep it on ice for you for later
  • Desktop icons move now. Put them where you'd like. Rearrange Desktop will make it nice and neat for ya
  • More Themes: Switch up the colors to swag out your desktop.

NOTES

  • More improvements on the way, more refined stations, more streamlined experiences

VIBE/OS 7.2 —

NEW

  • MIXTAPES: Three tapes somebody left on file, looks like there's a note
  • New HI-FI functionality for tapes playing front-to-back

NOTES

  • We must be in the 2000's because the machine has a suggestion ready once the tape runs out? o_O

VIBE/OS 7.1 —

NEW

  • POP'S RECORDS: three volumes of the music Pops loves, played front to back
  • HI-FI: a second player for whatever is physically on the deck
  • BACKUP 2: a folder of notes somebody left on this disk
  • Loading animations: the record spins, the grill gets going

IMPROVED

  • Records play in order now. Records were always supposed to play in order.
  • Phones get the whole screen for each app instead of half of it
  • The screen saver waits until the music is off

NOTES

  • The record stays on the platter until somebody puts it away.

VIBE/OS 1.0 —

NEW

  • Initial release of The Cookout FM digital radio station
  • Hand-curated music stations (no algorithm dependency)
  • Continuous playback optimized for cookouts and kickbacks
  • VIBE/OS windowed interface support

IMPROVED

  • Vibe consistency across stations
  • Reduced decision fatigue (just press play)

NOTES

  • This took a long time.
  • We finally made it.
